Douglas P. Zipes Lectureship Award

Purpose

The Douglas P. Zipes Lecture is awarded to an individual who has made a significant and unique contribution to the field of cardiac pacing and electrophysiology as a basic scientist.

Selection Committee

  • Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) President
  • HRS Scientific Sessions Program Committee Chair
  • President of Cardiac Electrophysiology Society (CES) Society

Process

The HRS President and Scientific Sessions Program Committee Chair informally poll the basic science community and present a recommendation for the winner of this award to the President of CEPS to make a final selection. The lectureship is not considered one of HRS’s ‘Distinguished Awards’ and therefore does not follow HRS’s formal award nomination process.

The presentation format of the lectureship varies depending on the decision of the Annual Scientific Sessions schedule. The scheduling of the lecture presentation should be appropriate for the recipient and the program.

Frequency: one award given annually

Award

This award includes complimentary registration to the current year’s Scientific Sessions, a lectureship at the Annual Scientific Sessions, a plaque, and $1,000 for the honoree’s travel and housing expenses.
