James H. Youngblood
Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Youngblood leads the 5,000+ member professional society in its goal to end death and suffering due to heart rhythm disorders. Since joining HRS in 2001, Mr. Youngblood has spearheaded the organization’s transformation into the premier global resource for education and information on heart arrhythmias, which currently serves over 35,000 constituents across six continents.
His 30+ year career in the healthcare and meetings industries has focused on education, leadership development and transformational change. As CEO, his areas of special expertise include strategy, partnerships and strategic alliances, and volunteer leadership development and mentoring. Mr. Youngblood’s lifelong interest in organizational development has led to a deep understanding of how organizations work and how to structure them to create optimal work environments and high performance.
Prior to HRS, Mr. Youngblood was EVP, Science Operations for the American Heart Association, overseeing AHA’s scientific meetings, scientific and clinical journals, scientific councils, research programs and membership. He has held positions in meeting management, training and organizational development, and prior to moving into association management, owned and managed an early prototype for natural food stores and restaurants.
Mr. Youngblood has served on numerous volunteer boards, including the American Society for Association Executives, Professional Convention Management Association, the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau, Destination DC. He has been a trustee for the PCMA Foundation, received PCMA’s Distinguished Service Award, and served on numerous industry advisory boards. Mr. Youngblood earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics/Sociology, and holds a master’s degree in Humanities, both from the University of Arkansas.
