Program Description

Test your understanding of current clinical guidelines and the consensus of experts for managing patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). This high-powered, interactive symposium will feature the ample use of an audience response system to field pre- and post-tests as well as case-based audience challenges to help participants gauge their knowledge of the most current guidelines and areas of consensus in AF. Topics to be covered include the appropriate use of antiarrhythmic drug therapies, rate and rhythm control, and cardioversion as well as the latest consensus surrounding catheter and surgical ablation. Participants will benefit from first-rate knowledge of the guidelines and synopses of cutting edge developments offered in a series of state-of-the-art lectures by the world’s leading experts in atrial fibrillation.

Objectives

  • Discuss AF management strategies for specific patient populations based on the ACC/AHA/ESC Guidelines
  • Associate patients with algorithm categories and discriminate the appropriateness of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic options for the management of AF
  • Identify and employ CHADS2 risk scores in making management decisions for AF patients
  • Recognize the different methods of cardioversion as well as both pre- and post-procedure anticoagulation strategies and antiarrhythmic drug management
  • Recognize the indications for catheter and surgical ablation
  • Identify appropriate candidates for ablation
