Dr. Seymour Furman was a pioneer in cardiac pacing and electrophysiology, whose early innovation and subsequent academic endeavors were greatly facilitated by his national and international collaborations. In this spirit, The Furman Fund has introduced a series of travel scholarships to inspire young trainees interested in electrophysiology to pursue it as a career.

Heart Rhythm 2010 travel scholarships seek to:

  • Introduce trainees, who have expressed an interest in electrophysiology, to the multiple facets of the specialty
  • Promote continued collaborative relationships between these groups
  • Provide opportunities for active and interactive mentoring of clinician scientists early in their training

Scholarships are appropriate for third-year Residents and Cardiology Fellows that are interested in pursuing electrophysiology research, either in academic or private practice. The inaugural awardees of the Furman Travel Scholarships were Anita Wokhlu, MD, of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, and Cevher Ozcan, MD, of Yale University, New Haven, CT — visit the Heart Rhythm Foundation website to learn more about Drs. Wokhlu and Ozcan.
