The International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE), formerly NASPExAM®, is a standard of excellence for cardiac arrhythmia professionals and its exam is recognized as the highest benchmark of professional competency in cardiac pacing, defibrillation and electrophysiology. As the field of electrophysiology and cardiac rhythm management has evolved over the past 25 years, the IBHRE exam continues to evolve, addressing the most current issues, tools and techniques of critical importance to heart rhythm professionals.
The initial examination was created for physicians and surgeons. In 1989, a similar examination was developed for allied professionals (e.g., nurses, physician assistants and those employed in industry). In 1997, IBHRE added a third examination in the specialty of cardiac electrophysiology for the allied professional.
