Circulatory & Electrical Systems of the Heart

  • Describe the human circulatory system
  • Identify the chambers of the heart
  • Identify the structures of the heart
  • Identify the major vessels leading from and to the heart
  • Describe the flow of blood through and from the heart
  • Describe the main components of the heart's electrical system
  • Describe the Function of the SA node
  • Describe how an electrical impulse propogates through a normal heart

EP Studies

  • Explain the difference between an intercardiac electrogram and a body surface electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Identify the most common intercardiac recording positions
  • Understand an intercardiac electrogram

Arrhythmias and Ablation

  • Define arrhythmia
  • Explain the mechanisms that cause arrhythmia
  • Describe bradycardia and tachycardia
  • Define supraventricular tachycardia
  • Define junctional tachycardia
  • Define ventricular tachycardia
  • Define ablation
  • Summarize the history of ablation
  • Explain RF ablation
  • Explain how tissue heating occurs
  • Explain the function of RF generators
