Womens’ Career and Leadership Development Conference. A biennial program intended for early and mid-career female cardiologists. interested in developing better leadership and career skills. The program format includes a reception and dinner program on Friday and lectures and workshops on Saturday. The most recent program was offered in February 2008; organizers plan to offer it again in two years.
- Association of American Medical Colleges. AAMC periodically offers programs in its Women in Medicine series. Recent examples include an Early Career Women Faculty Seminar (planned for July 2008) and a Mid-Career Women Faculty Seminar (December 2007).
- Center for Creative Leadership Women's Leadership Program. CCL is a widely respected provider of leadership assessment and training programs serving managers in both for-profit and non-profit environments. Their Women's Leadership Program, designed for and staffed by women, brings together the powerful assessment and feedback tools found in other CCL programs, coupled with research-based content that centers on issues and perceptions unique to women. The five-day program is intended for mid- and senior level managers who want to become stronger leaders through a feedback-intense learning experience.
- Executive Leadership in Medicine (ELAM).The nation's only in-depth program focused on preparing senior women faculty at schools of medicine, dentistry and public health to move into positions of institutional leadership where they can effect positive change. The program is run by Drexel University and sponsored by major medical schools. The year-long program is designed for women at the associate or full professor level “who demonstrate the greatest potential for assuming executive leadership positions at academic health centers within the next five years” and are nominated by their Deans. ELAM develops the professional and personal skills required to lead and manage successfully in today's complex healthcare environment, with special attention to the unique challenges facing women in leadership positions.
- Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association. A membership organization of women in the pharma, biotech, medical devices and diagnostics industries, as well as medical education, advertising, marketing, communications, legal, regulatory affairs, training & development, consulting, payers, provider and other related fields. Extensive educational and networking offerings for those either in, or considering a career move, to one of these industries (even starting a company). Includes two affinity groups: Women in Science and the Technology Network.
- Simmons School of Management Annual Women’s Leadership Conference. Simmons pioneered the women’s leadership conference concept in 1979. Some of the world’s most accomplished women, including politicians, businesswomen, journalists, scientists and physicians, speak candidly about what they have learned on their journeys to success. Noted business, management, and lifestyle experts also offer practical workshops. Sessions are interspersed with opportunities to meet the speakers and network with many of the 3,000 professional women who participate in this premier event.
Programs for Both Women and Men - American Collegeof Cardiology. Advanced Cardiology Leadership Workshops. Heart House, ACC Headquarters, Washington, DC. A recurring workshop that is designed to help practice managers, physicians and administrative leaders identify individual issues and improvement opportunities, share experiences and leave with a customized action plan for themselves and their practice's future. This workshop covers many of the key aspects that define successful leaders and leadership skills and strategies.
- Association of American Medical Colleges Leadership Programs. A list compiled by AAMC of national leadership development programs suitable for emerging, mid-level and senior leaders in healthcare.
- Harvard School of Public Health. Leadership Development for Physicians in Academic Health Centers. A two-week program for physicians who are not chairs of clinical departments and want a rigorous leadership development and management education program. The curriculum provides intensive and systematic study of institutional policy and strategy, financial analysis and control, management of operations, clinical innovation and performance improvement, organizational issues, conflict resolution and negotiation.
