content_line

Institutional Resources Worth Negotiating For

Your negotiation should include institutional resources to which you will have guaranteed access. Some examples include:

  • Increased laboratory time if you show growth in procedural volume.
  • One half day per week of office work / administrative time.
  • One half day per week of protected research time (if applicable).
  • Additional paid expenses for teaching or research presentations outside of the institution, hospital, or practice.
  • A shared secretary, equal to that of other colleagues at your level.

Fall-Back Positions

Be prepared with one or more fall-back positions. For example, you can negotiate for a future promise of protected research time once you secure funding.
