The report ran as an insert in the print version of the Chicago Tribune and was also featured on the newspaper's homepage — reaching more than 1.4 millionTribune readers!

Heart Rhythm Society President-elect Anne M. Gillis, MD, FHRS is featured on page 5 of a cardiovascular health report for women that ran as an insert in the September 2, 2011 print edition of the Chicago Tribune. Download and read the full report (PDF, 2.8M).

Dr. Gillis contributed an informative article about Atrial Fibrillation (AF), explaining characteristics and symptoms of the most common heart rhythm disorder, as well as increased health risks for women with AF.

Dr. Gillis also discussed recent legislative advancements around the improved awareness and education of AF, including the Senate's recent passage of S.Res. 243, which promotes increased awareness, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease state in order to address high morbidity and mortality rates and to prevent avoidable hospitalizations associated with the disease.

Finally, Dr. Gillis encourages women to document their experiences and to talk to a doctor if they experience any signs of AF.

The Heart Rhythm Society will continue to educate the public and raise awareness of Atrial Fibrillation. Resources for healthcare professionals and patients include:
