The 2010 Cardiovascular Health Report teaches readers what they need to know to maintain a healthy heart and avoid preventable heart conditions.

Heart Rhythm Society President Douglas L. Packer, MD, FHRS (2010–2011) and Immediate Past President, Richard L. Page, MD, FHRS are featured on page 6 of a cardiovascular health report that ran as an insert in the September 30 print edition of the Los Angeles Times. Download and read the full report (PDF, 3.2M).

Dr. Packer contributed an article that describes implantable cardioverter defibrillators and automated external defibrillators and explained the importance of placing automated external defibrillators in public places to help save the lives of sudden cardiac arrest victims.

Dr. Page explained the differences between sudden cardiac arrest and a heart attack and urged readers to practice a heart healthy lifestyle to decrease their risk of dying of SCA or other heart conditions.

In addition, Heart Rhythm Society member Vilma Torres, MD is featured on page 12 of the report. Dr. Torres shares the risk factors for heart disease and shares the facts of this number one killer of American women. She urges women to know the risks and and preventable measures that can be taken to maintain a healthy heart.

The Heart Rhythm Society will continue to educate the public about the dangers of sudden cardiac arrest and what can be done to help victims that experience this deadly heart condition. Learn more about the Society's "Apples and Oranges" Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Campaign.
