The Heart Rhythm Society broadcast the final of three 90-minute webinars concerning the 23 new CPT® codes on cardiac devices monitoring services on Monday, January 12, 2009. The pre-recorded webinar (which originally aired November 13, 2008) featured a one-hour presentation by Bruce L. Wilkoff, MD, FHRS, CCDS and Kevin R. Wheelan, MD, PharmD, CCDS.

For the final event, the LIVE Question & Answer session that followed was expanded from 30 to 45 minutes, led by Dr. Wheelan and by Linda Gates-Striby, cardiology chair on the Board of Advanced Medical Coding.

More than 20 new CPT® codes concerning cardiac device monitoring services have been implemented in 2009, distinguishing the work of a programming evaluation from an interrogation evaluation, performed in-person or remotely with different modern devices such as pacemakers, ICDs, ICMs and ILRs. All webinar participants also received a 20 percent discount off their purchase of the Society’s Coding Guide for Heart Rhythm Procedures and Services, 2009. (Important: Coding Guide order must have taken place during webinar registration to receive this discount.)

During New Cardiac Device Monitoring Codes for 2009, Drs. Wilkoff and Wheelan explained the major changes in CPT and provide instruction and guidance on how to use the new codes for reporting procedures and services to health insurance programs, including new code descriptors and crosswalk deleted codes. The live Q&A session allowed participants to ask questions and receive helpful feedback on these recent changes.
