The National ICD Registry Working Group, chaired by Dr. Stephen Hammill, FHRS, submitted a letter (PDF, 260K) to the Centers For Medicare & Medicaid Services on April 20, 2007 detailing recommendations on how to address longitudinal evidence determination requirements needed to resolve current Medicare coverage restrictions.
The Centers For Medicare & Medicaid Services positively responded to these recommendations in their letter (PDF, 76K) dated May 4, 2007 indicating they: “In order for CMS to expand coverage of ICDs and lift the CED requirement, additional information on the appropriate use of this technology is necessary. Particularly due to the rigors and completeness of the protocol, outcomes of the Longitudinal ICD Registry may contribute to future changes and expansions in Medicare coverage policy.”
