On March 12, 2008, Society staff met with Betsy Nabel, MD, Director of the NIH’s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and staff from the office of Rep. Michael Simpson (R-ID) to discuss the important initiatives NHLBI is currently funding, as well as the successes and opportunities in arrhythmia-related research. Simpson serves on the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education Appropriations Committee tasked with funding the NIH.
This meeting was the latest in a series during which Nabel is briefing Congressional members and staff about its programs and its newly released strategic plan. The Heart Rhythm Society will continue to highlight the crucial importance of arrhythmia-related research and NIH’s role in enabling these advances.
