The Heart Rhythm Society submitted comments to US Representative Carolyn McCarthy ( D-NY) in response to her introduction of HR 1252, the Teague Ryan Sudden Child Cardiac Arrhythmia Syndromes Screening and Education Act of 2005. The bill would authorize funding for programs that provide screenings and education regarding children with sudden cardiac arrhythmia syndromes. The Heart Rhythm Society commends Rep. McCarthy for introducing legislation to raise public awareness of the devastating effects of sudden cardiac arrest. The Society supports efforts to educate the public about arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death in children, however believes that a federal bill should favor education efforts over wide-spread screening.
