On June 8th, 2005, the Heart Rhythm Society, as part of the NHLBI Constituency Group and the National Coalition for Heart and Stroke Research hosted a reception for incoming National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute (NHLBI) Director Dr. Betsy Nabel on Capitol Hill. The event was co-sponsored by the Congressional Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Caucus, the Congressional Heart and Stroke Coalition, and the Congressional Pulmonary Hypertension Caucus. Dr. Louis Sullivan, former Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) acted as the Master of Ceremonies and Congressmen Lantos (CA) and Brady (TX), co-chairs of the Pulmonary Hypertension Caucus, gave brief remarks. Heart Rhythm Society President Dr. Anne Curtis was recognized by Dr. Sullivan as head of one of the event’s co-sponsors. Also representing the Society were Health Policy Committee Chair Dr. Mark Carlson, CEO James Youngblood and Health Policy Department staff.
