Case-Based Tutorials (CBT)
Session Time: 1 Hour 30 minutes
Faculty Members: 1 Chair; 2–4 Invited Speakers
- Teaching groups that encourage audience discussion as the presenters review cases chosen by the faculty. Selected sessions will use the Audience Response System (ARS) to allow the faculty to ask polling-style questions of the audience.
- Each invited speaker will receive 20–25 minutes of presentation time; 15–20 minute PowerPoint presentation followed by a 5-minute question and answer session depending on the number of invited speakers.
Core Curricula (CC)
Session Time: 1 Hour 30 minutes
Faculty Members: 2 Chairs; 3–4 Invited Speakers
- Didactic teaching sessions in all major specialty categories.
- The Scientific Sessions Program Committee will provide presentation titles for invited speakers.
- Each invited speaker will receive 20–25 minutes of presentation time; 15–20 minute PowerPoint presentation followed by a 5-minute question and answer session depending on the number of invited speakers.

Session Time: 45 minutes; includes a 10-Minute Rebuttal
Faculty Members: 1 Chairs; 2 Invited Speakers (1 Protagonist; 1 Antagonist)
- Spirited debate sessions on controversial issues.
- The Chair will give a five-minute introduction.
- The Scientific Sessions Program Committee will identify the Protagonist and Antagonist for invited speakers.
- There will be a 15-minute presentation from the Protagonist followed by a 15-minute presentation from the Antagonist, then a 10-minute rebuttal period (five minutes for each speaker).
Experts Unplugged (EU)
Session Time: 1 Hour
Faculty Members: 1 Expert
- Small intimate, lunchtime talks (approximately 40 attendees), covering various areas of expertise.
- There is only one faculty member in each of the sessions being offered.
- Experts conduct their talks without the use of audiovisual aids.
- Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Invited faculty participating in these sessions are not required to purchase a ticket.
Featured Symposia (SY)
Session Time: 1 Hour 30 minutes
Faculty Members: 2 Chairs; 3–4 Invited Speakers
- Showcase sessions surrounding a central theme with faculty known as experts in their subject area.
- The Scientific Sessions Program Committee will provide presentation titles for invited speakers.
- Each invited speaker will receive 15–20 minutes of presentation time depending on the number of invited speakers; followed by a 30-minute question and answer session.
Meet the Experts Luncheon Panels (ME)
Session Time: 1 Hour
Faculty Members: 1 Chairs; 2–3 Invited Speakers
- Sessions offered on Thursday and Friday ONLY
- The session format allows attendees the opportunity to have active interaction with faculty participants. Faculty members will conduct this session without the use of audiovisual aids (i.e. PowerPoint presentations).
- Lunch will be provided at the beginning of the session.
- The Scientific Sessions Program Committee will provide presentation titles for invited speakers.
- Seating is very limited. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Invited faculty participating in these sessions are not required to purchase a ticket.
Mini-Courses (MC)
Session Time: 3 Hours w/30 minute break
Faculty Members: 2 Chairs; 4–8 Invited Speakers
- Three-hour didactic teaching courses on “Hot and New” topics.
- The Scientific Sessions Program Committee will provide presentation titles for invited speakers
- Each invited speaker will receive 15–30 minutes of presentation time depending on the number of invited speakers; followed by a 30-minute question and answer session at the end of the session.
- Sessions offered on Wednesday ONLY.
Oral/Poster/Moderated Poster/ Abstract Sessions (AB/PO/MP)
Presentations in oral, poster and moderated poster format that provide the most up-to-date scientific research.
Special Sessions (SS)
Session Time: 3 Hours (2 hours allotted for presentation; 30-minute Q & A; 30-minute break)
Faculty Members: 2 Chairs; 4–8 Invited Speakers
- Three-hour didactic teaching courses on “Hot and New” topics.
- The Scientific Sessions Program Committee will provide presentation titles for invited speakers
- Each invited speaker will receive 15–30 minutes of presentation time depending on the number of invited speakers; followed by a 30-minute question and answer session.
- Sessions offered on Wednesday ONLY. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Invited faculty participating in these sessions are not required to purchase a ticket.
**This session type Includes events such as Health Policy Town Hall Meetings; Opening Plenary; Late-Breaking Clinical Trials, Summits, Forums and more.
Translational Electrophysiology Sessions (TE)
Session Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes
Faculty Members: 1 Translator; 3–4 Invited Speakers
- The session format allows clinicians and scientists to come together with the assistance of a carefully selected expert “Translator” presiding over the session.
- The Translator will give a 5-minutes introduction. In addition, the Translator will ask questions during each presentation, as well as moderate a 10-minute discussion with attendees after all presentations.
- Each invited speaker will receive 20–25 minutes total presentation time depending on number of invited speakers in the session.
- The Basic Translational Science Team Leader will send a personal message to all TE faculty participants regarding the format of each TE session.
