Explore the finest wine-producing region in the nation: California’s Napa Valley. The emergence of the California Wine Country as a premier wine-producing region is evident by the area’s domination in international wine competitions in recent decades, although the fame of the area’s wines is nothing new. Eminent 19th-century writer Robert Louis Stevenson once described the wines produced here as “bottled poetry.” With its look of old and settled tranquility, this beautiful countryside fulfills every expectation of an ideal wine country, calling to mind the Loire Valley in France.
Over the course of this adventure, you will visit two very different wineries. This will afford the unique opportunity to compare the huge variety of Wine Country wineries. As wine producers gain a better understanding of the ways in which soil conditions and microclimates affect the quality of wine grapes, distinctive regions are defined as U.S. viticultural areas. And more and more viticultural regions are receiving recognition as unique areas in their own right. Winemakers, too, are expanding their stylistic input to create a whole new range of tastes.
You will begin the tour by visiting a renowned winery such as Clos du Val, Benziger, or Domaine Carneros. Here they will enjoy a private tour of the wine-making facilities, followed by a sensory evaluation of the winery's premium varietals.
A visit to a second winery, perhaps a small family-run boutique winery, will afford you the opportunity to enjoy a comparative tour and tasting before returning to the hotel.
This is sure to be a fascinating, educational and fun-filled experience!
