Heart Rhythm 2012 Travel Scholarships: The Furman Fund
The Furman Fund of the Heart Rhythm Foundation has established three travel scholarships to attend Heart Rhythm 2012, May 9-12, in Boston, MA.
Dr. Seymour Furman was a pioneer in cardiac pacing and electrophysiology, whose early innovation and subsequent academic endeavors were greatly facilitated by his national and international collaborations. In this spirit, The Furman Fund has introduced a series of travel scholarships to inspire young trainees interested in electrophysiology to pursue it as a career.
Heart Rhythm 2012 travel scholarships seek to:
- Introduce trainees, who have expressed an interest in electrophysiology, to the multiple facets of the specialty
- Promote continued collaborative relationships between these groups
- Provide opportunities for active and interactive mentoring of clinician scientists early in their training
Scholarships are appropriate for third-year Residents and Cardiology Fellows that are interested in pursuing electrophysiology research, either in academic or private practice. Allied Professional applicant must be licensed RN, PA, NP, or technician employed in an accredited institution or established cardiac electrophysiology program/practice.

About Seymour Furman, MD, FHRS and The Furman Fund
Dr. Furman's contributions and volunteer leadership in supporting the mission of the Heart Rhythm Society, which he helped found, are incalculable. The Heart Rhythm Society and the Heart Rhythm Foundation are dedicated to keeping this legacy alive with the establishment of The Furman Fund, which focuses on preserving the history of cardiac pacing, inspiring clinicians and students to further develop their careers, and educating the clinical and lay community about the field of heart rhythm management and treatment. In addition to the above-mentioned travel scholarships, The Furman Fund supports such projects as the Electricity and the Heart website (displaying the history of cardiac rhythm disorders), the Oral History collection (created to provide a look into pacing and electrophysiology) and the Rhythms in Time exhibit which showcases the device collection at the Society's Annual Scientific Sessions.
