July 2003—This statement provides additional information regarding maintenance of skills related to device implantation, more detailed training guidelines for CIED implantation and lead extraction, and initial guidelines for implantation of cardiac resynchronization devices that require additional leads to be placed at alternative pacing sites.

The original policy statement on training guidelines was the result of a conference held in 1992 and was published as a policy statement in 1994. NASPE is now known as the Heart Rhythm Society.
