2011 ACCF/AHA/HRS Focused Update on the Management of Patients with Atrial Fibrillation (Updating the 2006 Guideline)
December 20, 2010—This guideline update is based on a report of the American College of Cardiology Foundation/American Heart Association Task Force on Practice Guidelines. This document has been retired and replaced by "2014 AHA/ACC/HRS Guideline for the Management of Patients with Atrial Fibrillation."
It focuses on several areas in which new data on the management of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) have become available, including:
- catheter ablation and its usefulness in maintaining normal sinus rhythm in AF patients
- recommendations for heart rate control
- combined use of antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy
- use of dronedarone
These updated guideline recommendations on the treatment of AF reflect a consensus of expert opinion after a thorough review, primarily of late-breaking clinical trials and other new data. The full-text guidelines published in 2006 remain current with the exception of the recommendations presented in this document.
