Webinar- 2018 ICD Coverage Policy

Understanding the ICD Medicare Coverage and the Shared Decision Making Requirement

Description

On February 15, 2018, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released an updated National Coverage Determination (NCD) for Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators (ICD). CMS has covered ICDs since 1986. Prior to this latest version of the coverage policy, the rules for ICD implantation had not been updated since 2005. Over time, technology and patient eligibility for ICDs has evolved. CMS reopened the existing coverage policy in 2017 to update it to reflect current recommended practice. The NCD’s updates includes the addition of a requirement of a shared decision making.

Developed by the Heart Rhythm Society and the American College of Cardiology, this 20-minute complimentary webinar will provide an overview of the updated policy and the requirement of a shared decision making.
