The Duke Sports Cardiology and Sudden Death in Athletes Symposium has been designed to enhance learners’ knowledge and their competency to incorporate evidence-based updates in the care of athletes in order to mitigate their risk for sudden cardiac death (SCD).
Other topics will include evaluating the unique characteristics of an athlete’s heart, prescribing appropriate testing strategies and effectively interpreting test results, as well as the pros and cons of using ECG screening in athletes. In addition to case presentations by Duke faculty and fellows, effective training in and implementation of evidence-based resuscitation strategies, rapid response, and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), will also be reviewed.
