2018 Proposed Regulation

On June 20, 2017 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the 2018 proposed rule for the Quality Payment Program. CMS' summary of the proposed rule is available here .

On August 9, 2017 HRS submitted a letter commenting on several provisions included in the proposed rule. 


2017 Final Regulation

MACRA Final Rule Includes New Electrophysiology Cardiac Specialist Measure Set- The final rule includes the 3 HRS-developed measures, which are included into a Electrophysiology Cardiac Specialist Measure Set

  • HRS-3: Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) Complications Rate
  • HRS-9: Infection within 180 days of CIED Implantation, Replacement, or Revision
  • HRS-12: Cardiac Tamponade and/or Pericardiocentesis Following Atrial Fibrillation Ablation

On October 14, 2016, the CMS just released the MACRA final rule. The rule is officially titled “Medicare Program; Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Alternative Payment Model (APM) Incentive Under the Physician Fee Schedule, and Criteria for Physician-Focused Payment Models.”  The full text of the final rule and an executive summary are available on the dedicated website at https://qpp.cms.gov/ .

HRS Comment Letter on the Final Rule 

On December 15, 2016, the HRS submitted a letter commenting on the MACRA final rule with comment period . The provisions of this final rule with comment period are effective on January 1, 2017.


2017 Proposed Regulation
