Together We Share Ideas: A Look Ahead to Heart Rhythm 2017

The EP field has always been driven by innovation. In the upcoming year, we will continue to focus on the fast-paced evolution of our field. As we prepare for our next annual meeting, you can expect to see even more groundbreaking science, innovation, and methods designed to clinical outcomes in our patients. Heart Rhythm 2017 is quickly approaching and I want to share an initial overview of what to expect and upcoming dates to keep in mind.

Skyscrapers in the Chicago skyline at early evening time, reflecting in the water. For the first time in 38 years, we will convene in Chicago, Illinois, a global hub of innovation and discovery in medicine and technology, on May 10-13, 2017. Leading clinicians, scientists, researchers, and innovators in the field of cardiac pacing and electrophysiology will come together to explore the latest science, share ideas, network with colleagues, and discuss new possibilities.

Opening Plenary Speaker: Hugh Evans

Headshot of Hugh EvansOur field is also increasingly driven by global collaboration. I am pleased to announce that Hugh Evans will be the Opening Plenary speaker this year and will kick off the meeting on May 10 at 8:30 a.m.

Evans is a humanitarian, social entrepreneur, and Co-Founder and CEO at Global Citizen/Global Poverty Project. He will bring his unique outlook on “Becoming a Citizen of the World” as he makes the case that the future of our planet depends on “global citizens”— those who identify first and foremost, as members of the human race. Evans’ passion for activism and began with a life-changing journey when he volunteered at a young age with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in India. He was named Young Australian of the Year, made Forbes “30 under 30” list, and earned a master’s in international relations from the University of Cambridge— all before the age 30. We look forward to hearing his dynamic ideas on embracing the possibilities of the world we share — and joining together to change it.

Key Highlights and Dates

Row of people at a conference.Heart Rhythm 2017 will host more than 250 educational sessions covering a span of topics including pacing, defibrillation, ablation, genetics, health policy, clinical arrhythmia management, and basic science. Overall, sessions will be more interactive than ever before and will include perspectives from multiple viewpoints including key members from other medical societies, emerging and senior leaders, and industry scientists.

We are hosting three Summits this year as part of our Premier registration package, including the following:

  • Lead and Device Management Summit: This was added back to the program. Building on the success of previous years, this Summit has been reconfigured to be an interactive experience with a focus on highlighting the newest topics in the field and debating the pros and cons of new treatment modalities.
  • AF Summit: Faculty will provide a detailed focus on new approaches for ablation of persistent AF and evolving therapies that are shaping the field as well as important updates on new ablation and mapping technologies.
  • VT/VF Summit: This summit will have multiple sessions that are structured around a clinical case format encouraging enhanced full audience participation, facilitated by electronic polling concerning difficult diagnostic and management decisions.
