Children's Law Center Partnership

CLC Partnership

In November 2007, the Heart Rhythm Society embarked on a year-long volunteer partnership with the Children's Law Center (CLC) in Washington, DC.

Society staff gathered on a "casual" Friday to pose with the new backpacks purchased and stuffed with supplies for elementary and middle school-aged children. All involved mentioned being reminiscent of their own first day of school!

About the Partnership

The Society — CLC Planning Committee was formed in November 2007, responsible for overseeing the activities the Society and its staff pursued in support of this worthy cause. CLC provides legal services to at-risk children and their families, using the knowledge gained to advocate for legal changes.

Giving to the abused, neglected, and at-risk children of DC is a multi-layered process, and one in which everyone can participate. Whether staff has time to spend working with the CLC staff, gently-used items in their homes to donate, or are interested in financially supporting the CLC’s programs that help children throughout the year, there is a place for all in the Society—CLC Partnership.

Heart Rhythm Society — CLC Partnership Projects
Society staff have found that donating time, talent, and effort brings about great personal and professional benefits: learning team-building and communication skills, networking with other professionals by getting involved in the DC community and much more. It's easy to stay involved when CLC expresses its thanks so generously.

Ways the Society Staff Has Contributed

  • Annual Adopt-a-Family Holiday Drive (November–December 2007, 2008)
By adopting a family as "teams" with our departments and using the CLC size suggestions and "wish lists," we have provided new clothing and educational toys to the children (and gift cards to parents for household necessities), striving to make their holidays more memorable for deserving families.
  • Helping Children Soar Benefit (September 2008)
Society staff had the opportunity to volunteer their time for half of the evening and enjoy the party, getting to know CLC staff and supporters, for the other half. Society employees helped staff the registration tables, provided directional assistance in getting attendees through the Kennedy Center and distributed "goodie bags" as guests departed. A number of staff also volunteered in the days prior to the Benefit, sorting and wrapping hundreds of items for the guest goodie bags.
  • Back-to-School Backpack Drive (August 2008)
Generous contributions from employees afforded 22 children in the DC area the opportunity to start school on the right foot with the school supplies needed for a productive school year!
  • Personal Donation Drive (May–June 2008)
Staff pulled together and made our volunteer efforts for the CLC a huge success! We received many personal donations (clothing, DVDs, board games, puzzles, stuffed animals, etc.) and many staff chose to purchase brand-new baby items after hearing about the plight of the new young mothers in need.

About the Children's Law Center

CLC envisions a future for the District of Columbia in which every child has a safe home, a meaningful education and a healthy mind and body. The CLC works toward this vision by providing legal services to at-risk children and their families and using the knowledge they gain from representing individual clients to advocate for changes in the law and its implementation.
