The Advanced Ablation Course builds on the fundamentals of the Maze IV Course. The Advanced Course focuses on the rationale, efficiency, and efficacy of performing the concomitant Maze IV procedure for persistent forms of atrial fibrillation (Afib). This course includes both didactic and hands-on training from highly experienced Afib surgeons and electrophysiologists covering a broad range of relevant topics.

  • Understand the relevant anatomy for performing catheter and surgical ablation procedures
  • Review pathophysiology and key principles of atrial fibrillation treatment 
  • Review role and alternate techniques of ablation associated with non-PVI triggers

  • Discuss the rationale and indications for the MAZE IV lesion set
  • Review alternate ablation approaches, energy sources, and lesion sets associated with surgical and catheter ablation treatment 
  • Identify tips and tricks to improve procedural and clinical efficacy of surgical AF ablation
  • Review post-operative management and safety profile
  • List pre and postoperative care considerations of catheter and surgical treatment of AF
  • Understand the benefits of an AF team approach consisting of surgeon/ electrophysiologist collaboration in identifying, treating, and performing rhythm follow-up of atrial fibrillation patients
