American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine

Building a New Cardiovascular Medicine Board

The Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) is partnering with the American College of Cardiology (ACC), Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) to develop a case for a new Board of Cardiovascular Medicine that would be an independent, self-governed entity, committed to sustained value for cardiovascular professionals and directed by an ultimate responsibility to serve the public and patients

HRS is pleased to announce the submission of a formal application to the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), requesting that the new Board of Cardiovascular Medicine become a reality. ABMS remains the only authority widely recognized by the public, regulators, and payers for initial and ongoing physician certification in the U.S.

Over the coming weeks, the consortium will post a number of informational videos, FAQs, and other activities at that will explain the ABMS application process and answer preliminary questions about what the new Board could look like and how we envision it will replace the current Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process with a pathway for continuous certification and competency.
