CMS Announces MIPS Flexibilities in Response to Change Healthcare Cyberattack

April 1, 2024 – Last week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced an extension of the 2023 Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) data submission period and a reopening of the 2023 MIPS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) exception application due to the Change Healthcare cybersecurity incident.

The extended deadline to submit 2023 data or to apply for an EUC exception is now April 15, 2024.

Note that CMS will only approve applications citing the cyberattack as the reason for requesting the exception; any other applications will be denied. Also, note that any data submitted to CMS will override your application for those performance categories.
