November 7, 2023 – On October 25th, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee advanced the nomination of Dr. Monica Bertagnolli to serve as Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by a vote of 15-6.
Dr. Bertagnolli currently serves as the Director of the National Cancer Institute. Her nomination will now be referred to the full chamber for a confirmation vote on the Senate floor.
The NIH has been led by Acting Director Dr. Lawrence Tabak since the departure of Dr. Francis Collins in December 2021.
