CV Community Voices Concerns About a Potential Mandate for Open Access to Publicly Funded Research

Thirteen stakeholder organizations in the cardiovascular community expressed concerns about a pending Executive Order from the U.S. Office of Science and Technology Policy that would mandate that federally funded research is immediately made publicly available. This policy would include all manuscripts related to that research that were submitted, peer reviewed, and accepted in journals.

The letter from the thirteen co-signers including the Heart Rhythm Society emphasizes that such a change would disrupt the publishing ecosystem in a manner that would create entry burdens to researchers and their publication of scientific articles, and delaying or diminishing improvements in the care of cardiovascular patients. The letter encourages the Administration to work with stakeholders to encourage openness and reliability in research development.
