The Heart Rhythm Society’s advocacy efforts focus on issues of critical importance to patients with heart rhythm disorders, including the commitment to evidence-based, guidelines-driven, affordable quality health care and fair reimbursement to healthcare providers. In March 2017, the HRS Board of Trustees approved these health policy principles that will guide the Society’s efforts to end death and suffering due to heart rhythm disorders.
Heart Rhythm Society Health Policy Principles
Any health care reform proposal should:
- Ensure affordable coverage for all Americans.
- Provide timely access to preventive care, treatments and appropriate specialty and sub-specialty care.
- Prevent insurers from denying coverage or disproportionately increasing premiums for patients with pre-existing conditions
- Ensure healthcare providers can provide care deemed clinically appropriate with minimal regulatory and administrative barriers.
- Encourage the commitment to evidence-based, guidelines-driven, quality health care and fair reimbursement to healthcare providers.
- Continue to strive to improve the patient’s health care experience and encourage open and effective clinician-patient communication.
