November 7, 2023 – While Congress continues to debate how to address future Medicare physician payment updates, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) covered the topic during its October meeting as a precursor to delivering potential recommendations to Congress on the matter.
In their session, the Commissioners and MedPAC staff discussed concerns about beneficiary access to care, although they noted that the data they reviewed has shown stable access to care for Medicare beneficiaries. The Commission plans to continue its discussion and may consider future policy options that it could forward to Congress as recommendations for altering the way that Medicare pays for physician services.
The next MedPAC meeting is scheduled for December 7-8, 2023.
